9mm Girls #2 is a comic written and drawn by Ash Kohari. After the failure of their last mission Aya and Hazel need to find a new way to make money. This is a supernatural comic with a nearly all-woman cast that has action, some drama, humor, and strong personalities. The first lady we see is Hazel, she is good with technology and owns a high-tech, renovated school bus. Aya is a skilled fighter with special abilities and she is armed with a Beretta. They have a little dog-sized demon living with them named Rain. The dastardly demon duo they went up against in the last issue are Eli and Silali. Eli is a sloth demon who is very serious and has no time for frivolity. Silali is a lust demon who likes to play around and has trouble focusing on the task at hand. This story begins with Hazel and Aya outside the bus resting as Aya has injuries from their last mission. They discuss getting jobs and future plans before the perspective shifts to Silali getting upset about her recent interaction with Hazel. This takes place in a world where demons exist in human and animal-like forms. The violence here has a bit of blood and brutality and light gore. The pacing here is steady and the tone is mostly chill, almost like a 2000’s era young adult drama. The intensity gets high due to danger and violence. The dialogue is nearly all conversational with heavy back-and-forth and some humor. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a sequel issue that gives us some calm, character-building moments while still providing exciting and deadly action.
The art here is detailed and drawn in a manga-reminiscent style with slight cartoonishness and strong shading. This is in black-and-white but there are many patterns on display as well as dotting, both Ben Day and half-tone. There isn’t any natural scenery as this takes place in an inner city/industrious area. The main locations here are an apartment and the area right outside of Hazel’s bus. The backgrounds here are split between showing the actual surroundings and being white or patterned. The expression level here is above-average as these characters react realistically to the different situations. The main emotions here are annoyance, happiness, anger, shock, and tiredness. The faces have a decent to good amount of detail and big eyes which help the expressions be clear. The mystical effects don’t look too out of the ordinary. The violence is delivered via physicality and handguns with some brutal hits, light gore, and a bit of blood. There is only one action scene but it is lengthy with a high amount of panels. Silali likes walking around naked.
