Angry Squad #1: Code Angry is a comic created by Lucas Scheffel with art by Nikita Vasilchuk. A giant ape gets fought. That sentence sums up only one part of this comic that goes all over the place. This a very chaotic and random story that will have you asking a million questions but give you no answers. And I don’t mean that in a “this was poorly written” kind of way, I believe confusion and an extremely fast-paced story was what the creator intended. Our main cast consists of a guy named Angry Fred and two ladies named Little Marie and Loud Lily. There are a bunch of fights, blood everywhere, and of course gore. Have you seen an action movie and heard how the leads talk when they are in the middle of a gunfight? That’s pretty much how they talk the whole time here. There are about two wordy pages in this whole issue but the way they talk never makes anything they say seem that long. If you like action heavy stories that keep the ball rolling the entire time then this is for you. You will be on your toes the entire time.
When it comes to color I like what was done here, but I must admit this isn’t the most detailed art. It’s very passable though. Military-like facilities and a beach are where the majority of the story goes down. The faces are quite expressive when the detail is high enough for us to discern, though it’s mostly smirks and anger. Face sameness isn’t a problem here; it’s just the inconsistent quality that’ll throw you off. The flow of the action is easy to follow and not jarring from panel-to-panel. This art fits the pace of the story but you might wish it looked a bit better.
