Prey for the Sinner #1 is a comic created by Marat Mychaels and published by Counterpoint Comics. Before I dive in, this story does contain sexual assault so be forewarned. The star of this story is a woman named Dr. Synthia Kemp who is a psychiatrist at the “Devil’s Den” a maximum security prison on what looks like an asteroid. The comic starts off with a prison riot and everything goes south. After being rescued and after her recovery it is discovered that she has superpowers. And now she’s out for revenge. This is a sci-fi comic with aliens galore and high tech cyberpunk-lite environments. This comic is action first talking second and it moves pretty fast, it was over before I knew it. The dialogue is to the point, no deep thoughts and no confusion. Everybody loves a good revenge story sometimes but the way we got it is unfortunate.
When it comes to character variety the art is on point. There so many different aliens, some have flames instead of hair, antennae, spikes coming out of random places, and of course every skin color under the rainbow is represented. The architecture has that smooth and shiny look prevalent in the sci-fi genre. But when you hit the alley it looks like your average modern city. The faces in this comic are decently expressive though they sometimes seem stiff, but it doesn’t happen enough to disrupt the story. This is a very colorful work, though some parts are drab and dull for story reasons.
