Switchblade Stories #2 is a comic created by Chris Askham. The first issue gave Mindy Lou a look at a whole new world, whereas this one gives us a look at her after six months of living in it. Now a full-fledged member of the Main Street Furies, Mindy Lou is still unsatisfied with where she is. She’s going through the motions as she makes bigger plans for her life. This comic approaches the story in different way than the last one. While the first issue had us looking at Mindy Lou as a fish out of water, this time around she looks like a go-getter with a mean streak who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. This story has great pacing and heavy moments that can’t be looked past. The characters of Mindy Lou, Darla May, and Gloria each receive some extra depth that gives us a better idea of what’s going on in their head. This is not a wordy comic, though due to the font it can seem like it is. This is a strong second issue that exceeds the standards set by the first. There are some bonus stories, mini-comics, and in-world ads after the conclusion of the main story.
Though the location changes frequently, our main backdrop is the inside of a house. Quite often the background will be made up of solid colors and shadows. The expressions stood out more to me this time around and like sprinkles on a cake they add just a little more to what’s there. Face sameness is an issue that persists but isn’t as bad as it sounds. This is drawn in an old pulpy style so some imperfections common with this style will appear. There are a nice variety of different hairstyles here that fit the characters’ personalities. The outfits are stylish and unique, but are they period accurate? I have no idea. The action sequences are drawn in such a way the impact of the attacks look heavy, which makes the resulting damage seem more real.
