Damsel from D.I.S.T.R.E.S.S. #3 is a comic written by Andrew Clemson with artwork by Maurice Mora. The first issue was a nice introduction with a good amount of action, the second gave us necessary story, and this third issue plunges us in the deep end of the plot. Our determined trio has apparently gone undercover at a fancy rich folk party in an attempt to get information. If you’ve this you are well aware that this isn’t going to go as smooth as they hope. There are some key flashbacks and heartwarming revelations here so buckle up. The dialogue won’t bog you and it doesn’t get too wordy. The witty off-the-cuff humor is here but it never seems overdone or out of place. The interactions between the different characters are great to see, especially whenever it involves Hilde. This is another solid entry in a series that doesn’t know how to put out anything less.
The bulk of this story takes place in a palatial building, with the story centered in the ballroom. Now if you’ve ever seen any Victorian-era period piece than you are well aware of how the layout is, and this comic does not stray. What we do see is our trio in soiree-attire, with Dave in a outfit I can’t properly describe because me and fashion don’t get along, and Bec and Hilde in some lovely gowns. If there’s one look our leading lady is good at making it is disgust. But she and the other people on screen showcase a wide variety of expressions throughout this tale that make it easier for us to understand tone and inner thoughts. Besides cookie-cutter guards there really isn’t much face sameness going on. And when things get a little antsy the scenes are easy to follow with good flow.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like undercover work in a fantasy world you should try this. Also two out of our three mains are ladies. And they are no slouches. The story gets a little thick here so you should start form the beginning.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Tongue Looseners. Gotta love ‘em, lads.”
