Seeing Red #1 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree and Mannix Francisco. Our story opens on a village, currently on fire. This situation goes from bad to worse in an instant. We are soon introduced to our leading lady Ella who isn’t exactly the life of the party. She’s a person who wastes no time and is very blunt, with good reason. This tale takes place in a fantasy world where man must fight against demons so don’t be surprised when they pop up. This comic isn’t too wordy and it doesn’t hit us with any info dumps. Our main focus is on our heroine but the other characters have decent potential to stand out. This is a fast-paced story that gets right to it so it’ll definitely hold your attention. This is the first issue in a five-part series so we should expect each issue to have a little bite to it.
The main locations seen here are burning village and forest. I forgot to mention that this issue takes place entirely at night. Though the main expressions here are terror, anger, and splashes of sadness, this comic does a good job of putting emotions on faces. With some of these male characters there might be whispers of face sameness but it’s not loud enough to draw your attention. And almost everybody in this comic is wearing a ponytail. Just letting you know. Most of the outfits here are medieval wear from the peasant line but our core group has a bit more style. It is as if they all picked a weapon then an outfit that they thought would go best with it. We have swords, axes, a mace, and what I believe to be a fantasy bazooka. The action scenes flow nicely and really try to suck you in and make you focus. Sometimes they even spread across multiple pages. You might see Ella on the cover and wonder if she’s running around in light armor showing skin while her comrades are bundled up like firewood. I’m here to tell you that she isn’t even the least dressed on the team, and her outfit lends itself to her fighting style.
