Slaying Mary Sue #1 is a comic created by Terrell Culbert. This is a futuristic fantasy tale with mythology baked in. This story starts off with Amon Ra’s three daughters Sekhmet, Bastet, and Hathor pressing him about the humans he’s created. Apparently all humans care about is violence and domination. After some scuffling and arguments about this Amon Ra kicks them out and tells them to create the perfect being if they want to get back in the kingdom. This story has light philosophical elements and a bunch of science. The dialogue is nice to read and easy to understand and none of the pages are too wordy. Personal identity is a theme tackled here along with the feelings that come with the questioning of higher powers. This is a very thick issue and the story moves fast when it needs to but slows down at the right parts.
When I see this kind of art style I think “thick”. Whether that’s because of the lines or the bold colors when done right I’ve always thought this was pleasant to look at. There are really only three locations showcased here and two of them are open spaces. The third is some sort of cross between a lab and some catacombs, and we still don’t see much. Aside from Amon Ra who is rocking the Shao Kahn fit with a hoodie, all the characters are women. All three sisters have a unique look, Bastet with her cathead, Hathor has the horns, and Sekhmet with the Bianca Belair-length hair. The outfits seen here fall into two categories: shiny or dark. Even with these restrictions they still manage to maintain their own specific style. The faces here are extremely expressive and at some points tell the story just as well as the words do. Also all the women are built like thick supermodels. All of em.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like women-led comics you should check this out. Heavy mythology and dire circumstances abound as well. Except for one male this comic exclusively features black women.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
R. Life isn’t that precious.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Then you better hurry. Time is of the essence.”

This was one of my favorite stories to write. I enjoyed the dysfunctional family dynamic. (lol) Also your words are too kind my friend.
Thanks, it was a good comic!
