Saving the World #3 is a comic containing two stories written by Tonicmole, but only one drawn by them, the other is drawn by Jim Lawson. This is published by Tonic Comix. Our first story tackles the life behind the superheroine, when the mask comes off, who is she? And the answer is a disgruntled fast-food employee who is constantly being punished by donning the garb of the Pickle King. This might hit home for some people as we follow Kierra as she works her shift at Big Burger. In the second story Kierra and Nora go to a costume party dressed as their superselves and everything goes awry when someone else like them attempts to ruin it. This one has significantly more action than the first and gives us yet another glimpse of people with powers.
I like the art in the first story as it is different from what we’ve normally seen. I’m racking my brain trying to find a comparable style for it but I can’t put my finger on one. One thing I can say is that it isn’t as facial expression heavy as the original style. I don’t fault the artist for that, it’s just that her fast-food faces range from irritated to annoyed. Maybe if we saw her off-the-clock it would’ve been different. The second story gives us the classic art and we get to see a wide variety of costumes at the party. We also get to see something gross drawn well, which may or may not be a plus. Be prepared for a bevy of face from Kierra as she “enjoys” a party she was more or less dragged to.
