Hollowed #1 is a comic written by Casey Bowker with art by Darius Johnson. This is comic that follows two different detectives as they go about their day. The first one we see is a man named Vaz, an irritable person who bleeds gruffness. Our second sleuth is a man named Tyler Gorman who is having a pretty good day until he isn’t. We also have a few secondary characters that have a decent amount of page time. The plot is split for now between a murder case linked to a serial killer and something else I won’t spoil. But it is very exciting. This has a level of action on par with a classic episode of Law & Order: SVU. First we see a regular investigation, and then we get into something more hairy. If you’ve seen a police procedural this dialogue won’t be anything new. But boy is it wordy. After those first couple pages of paragraphs it does get easier but be prepared. Overall this is like the start to a TV episode and it is interesting enough to keep you watching this channel.

            Most of the colors in this comic are stylistically washed out but on occasion some things important to the scene will be properly colored. The majority of the first story takes place at a crime scene while the second one hops to at least three different places. The expression level is slightly above-average but hard-boiled detectives like to be stone-faced. Faces are very detailed and unique and the things you’ll notice can add something to the characters. I must admit that due to the color choice and heavy use of shadows sometimes during an action you might get confused. I know I did, but if you pay close attention you should be able to get through it.
