Warbound #3 is a comic written by Marcel Dupree and Guido Martinez with art by Gaurav Shrivastava. Would you look at the time? It‘s prison break o’clock. Our favorite immortal “technically a hero” hero Warbound has concocted a plan to get him out of Barrenwoods Asylum. But he can’t accomplish this on his own and has enlisted a woman named Sigh to assist. This is a daunting task that you’ll enjoy watching play out. You’ll see subterfuge, sneaking, and unexpectedly some fighting. A good amount of fighting I might add. Prison breaks aren’t usually non-violent. The dialogue for the most part reads like a voiceover you’d see on a TV show but it can be an awful lot of words at some points. But reading step-by-step how this plan was laid is cool. In Issue 1 we got Warbound’s backstory, Issue 2 we were told of the events that landed him in the big house, and now we’re moving in real time. I know I wasn’t the only one waiting for this.
This story takes place in an asylum outfitted like a prison, so you can guess what the various interior shots look like. Gray walls, gray floors, gray beds. Being a prison the main expression is dejection, boredom, and basic misery, but you will see a few smiles and smirks when things start kicking off. When it comes to the faces I will admit certain details do look cookie cutter but besides that there is some good variety. There are also a few hairstyles that give you a small glimpse of their wearer’s personality. There is no real outfit variety. Because they are in prison. Seeing the various superpowers in action is cool to see and their effects are drawn in a way that helps you visualize it realistically. All the action here flows well, and it’s hard-hitting. You might notice little errors here and there but overall this is a good-looking comic.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like prison break stories involving those with special abilities you got lucky here. There is a good amount of stealth and fighting going on too.
