We Are Scarlet Twilight #2 is a comic created by Benjamin Morse. After an extended period of time out of commission Captain Lancet has returned and has big mess to clean up! With the help of a few allies he must stop Scarlet Twilight and its leader Satanika as they force human into subservience to vampires. This is a pulp comic with quite a bit of action but it manages to maintain a sort of influence from comics past. We have guns, arrows, and the most dangerous weapon of all: puns. This comic even has futuristic(for the time) technology some writers from the early age of comics have talked about. This comic can get a tad bit heavy on the words but when you acknowledge the era it fits. Especially if you can imagine hearing the dialogue over the radio like one of those classic shows. What we have here is the long-awaited next installment in this series about a “Golden Age” inspired superhero.
This comic is drawn in the Art Deco style and on first glance it reminded me a bit of the poster for the movie Metropolis. The color scheme is heavily tilted towards red, blue and, yellow, with strong shadow usage. There are a number of pages and panels that you could easily see as a poster on somebody’s wall. Just about every scene in this comic takes place in a building on a floor that sits above most buildings. Pulpy comics aren’t known for being very expressive and this comic really only has “evil smile” and determination. Is there face sameness? Yes due to pulpiness, but also not in the way you think. True to the era, most of the costumes we see are skintight and boldly colored. Some of the weapons we see are fire guns and special arrows but there is also a special machine central to plot that I won’t spoil. The action here looks cool and features some nice effects.
