Power Hour #1 is a comic created by Shawn Hudachko with art and writing by Jacob Bear. After an unexpected discovery a woman gains superpowers in short bursts. This is the origin story of the superheroine Power Hour, who has different abilities but each only lasts one hour. Her real name is Jennifer Jordan and she is in school for biochemistry. After a series of clumsy moments she stumbles upon something that’ll change her life forever. The plot is mainly focused on the origins of her powers so there isn’t much progression in the present day; this story does end on a intriguing note. The action is light it is decent. This comic isn’t necessarily fast-paced but it will be over before you know it. Not much of this dialogue is spoken aloud; it is almost all internal monologues. It reads realistically; not really any hero talk here, and no wordy pages. This is a comic whose main goal was to tell us the origins of its superheroine and it accomplishes that.
This comic is drawn realistically and has a nice range of colors. A decent number of locations are visited here but they tend to fade out into the background form panel-to-panel. You can tell this comic is trying but the expression level is below average. She only shows like two different looks this whole issue. And it’s kind of odd, because her face is drawn well enough to show a wider range of emotion. The action scenes look good and are easy to follow. Power Hour wears a skin tight full body superheroine costume; that’s the extent of any potential oversexualization.
