Dangerous Curves/Marvix: Enter The Dollhouse is a comic created by Shade. When an enormous mutant creature attacks a city two separate superwomen teams compete to take it down. This is action-filled issue with a bunch of powers on display and a lot of women. I’ll be honest, when I pledged this Kickstarter I assumed this issue was connected to an earlier series by Shade called Sinsationals so I just threw them my money and didn’t pay attention. So imagine my surprise when I learned that Dangerous Curves and Marvix are two different teams made up of six superwomen each. I was going to list them all and give a quick glimpse of their powers but that would take way too long. What I will tell you is that some of these share similarities with other more well-known heroes; this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We have a Dr. Manhattan, a Wolverine, and even a Human Torch-inspired superwoman! The plot begins and ends on larger series-effecting notes but the middle is all about the struggle with the giant creature and each other. The action here is nice because we see a bunch of different powers on display and it kind of feels like a movie. The dialogue is full of snappy remarks and a little too much hero talk from one of the teams. Characters like to talk in back-to-back sentences so everything looks wordier than it is but I can say that exposition drives the word amount up here. This is a woman-saturated comic that shows a bunch of different powers and conflicts on more than one front; a sequel hasn’t been promised but should be on the way in the future.
I don’t know all the proper art terms but Shade comics tend to have a softness to them you don’t really see anywhere else. The colors never get too bright; it’s as if certain pages have more light than others so we can see the art better. One part of the story takes place in an isolated facility while the majority of this issue takes place in a downtown area full of tall buildings and a bunch of people. There is a good amount of destruction here. The women here are pretty expressive and have enough facial detail to get all the emotions across. While the faces are nice to look at and have a good amount of realism to them they kind of all look alike. It isn’t terrible but it is noticeable. This comic gets gory but not bloody and the action is easy to follow. All of the outfits are skin tight and most of them are leotards and some of them are naked in the Dr. Manhattan-style. While there is no actual nudity here the detail in their clothes leaves very little to the imagination. These are all sexy women and I’m pretty sure they know it.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like women-led superteams full of women going against each other while fighting a greater enemy and all of them look like models and have a wide range of powers this is for you.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
R. They aren’t naked but they are way too close.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Unless you wanna get pancaked by the Cookie Monster out there…”
