Galaxy Heirs #1 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree, Rubyn Warren II, Ronilson Freire, and Dijjo Lima. A young man discovers he is way more important than he previously thought. In this story a man named Desmond is hunted by two different groups of people who know more about him than he does. The centerpiece of this story is a man named Desmond Jones, a former orphan(hint hint) that is now in college and that is trying to be a good influence to the younger generation. His pursuers are an assassin named Udo and a team of four trying to get to him before she does. The plot starts off by giving us a glimpse of Desmond’s character before launching into the meat of the story. It does start off a bit slow but it picks up the pace after the first few pages. This is a violent issue that gets gory immediately and the action tends to linger a bit. The dialogue is mostly quick and situational but it is a little too hammy at the beginning. There aren’t any wordy pages but a few bubbles do get packed with words. This is an entertaining debut issue for a sci-fi series starring and saturated with black characters.
This art style uses heavy shadows with an overall dark tone. It has many different colors befitting a sci-fi tale but most of them are faded; with a few bright ones. The main location is an open field but this comic hits quite a few others from a spaceship/station, to a theater, to an amusement park. This comic makes attempts to be expressive but it doesn’t always come across correctly. The faces are decently drawn but other than anger they don’t really convey much else. We got a variety of skin tones and faces here to keep these characters unique. Every now and again the bodies can seem inconsistent from panel-to-panel. Laser guns, drones, and cloaking devices are all standard sci-fi fare seen here. The action scenes here flow well here and are full of lasers, explosions, and gore. Besides a very deep v on Udo and another guy who is shirtless there isn’t any sexualization here.
