The Last Owling #3 is a comic created by John A. Rhodes and Ray Marek III with linework by Joseph Hao Olesco and colors by Avery Ferdinand. The Cult of the Great Horned Owl has many plays in motion as they attempt to appease Moloch. This is an issue with a lot of violence and some story strewn about haphazardly. Our leading lady(whose real name is still unknown) is The Owling, a woman who has taken up the mantle of her grandmother and who works with her mom to fight crime in Philadelphia. The plot follows up right where the last issue left off with the cult reeling from what The Owling has just done. We get a deeper look at the hierarchy of the organization and what kind of power they wield. The story here is very disjointed and moments that seem very important are just tossed in at odd times. The action is hard-hitting, bloody, and destructive. There will be moments where you’ll be baffled as to how they got from one panel to the next. The pace is very fast and it has many intense moments. The dialogue is overall very aggressive and has a lot of bold text to highlight certain things. There are no wordy pages here. This is a comic that does move the story forward but it seems a bit rushed with plot points jammed up against each other; in spite of this there are some exciting and intriguing moments to be had here.
This comic has some nicely colored, smooth-looking art; it borders on the edge of being cartoony. It has some well-drawn backgrounds with some locations that set the scene and occasionally stand out. These characters are very expressive with them exhibiting a wide range of emotions that come across on their faces pretty well. The faces have a decent amount of detail but might look a bit too smooth for some people. Another thing about the faces for the women is that they all look the same. Just swap out the hairstyles, eye color, and lip color. The same goes for their bodies as well. The mystical effects shown here shine on the page and will catch your eye. The action scenes are very violent and bloody with many hard hits. The panels can seem ou of order sometimes but you should get confused with the flow. The Owling sort of dresses like Batgirl but with her midriff showing. We do topless women for a number of scenes with one of those occasions showing a woman completely nude.
