Miss Meow #5 is a comic written by Murphey and Arron Sparrow with illustrations by Victor Serra and colors by Gaston Zubeldia. What began as a hunt for helmet ends up being a showdown between Miss Meow and Katfight. This is an issue that starts off as a political drama but ends in violence as old wounds are reopened. We have three leading characters this time around in Miss Meow, Katfight, and Leonidas. Miss Meow is a woman with a bunch of technology at her disposal whose mortal enemy is Katfight. Katfight is a woman who accuses Miss Meow of betrayal and thievery. Leonidas is the leader of the Spartans(a mercenary group) and has helped Katifght gain new abilities. The plot begins with Leonidas discussing political positioning with a senator and things get progressively angrier from there especially when the cat-themed ladies appear. There is some history that we didn’t know before that gets brought up throughout this issue. The pacing starts off slow as some of the early pages are thick with words but things speed up when things get violent. This is a very intense issue as lives are in the balance and anger can be felt. A lot of the dialogue is conversational with a lot of things being said between punches with quips scatter throughout. This is an exciting and violent issue centered on an inevitable confrontation between former friends that seemingly has no peaceful solution.
The art here has the smooth look of modern comics and a wide range of colors. The atmosphere starts off serious but gets destructive relatively fast. The opening location is on office space but the majority of the story takes place in a pretty nice-looking neighborhood. The main look that we’ll see here is one of anger, sometimes a snarl. Due to the path that this story takes there aren’t many other expressions we’ll see but they come across pretty well. The faces have many details but can seem a bit too similar to each other; fortunately the characters themselves have enough difference in hair, size, and skin tone to remove any potential confusion. Guns and blades make an appearance here but fists and feet are the start. The action is very hard-hitting and blood will pop up but this has easy-to-follow scenes and very light gore. The outfits are skin tight but combat-oriented on everybody except for Katfight, who likes to be stylishly sexy.
