The Flower is a comic written and drawn by Benji Bajorek. When a tragedy befalls a young girl she grows up wanting revenge on those responsible. This is a sci-fi noir tale that is presented in a very unique way. Our leading lady is unnamed but she is recognized by the pink tattoo under her left eye. The antagonists also have stand out looks with hints about their personalities. The plot is very straightforward, this woman wants revenge. She travels to wherever the culprits are in order to get it. The world goes from barren open spaces to high-tech inner cities looking like something out of Blade Runner. The action here is mostly bullets but does get bloody with some gore. The pacing is steady and most of the page time is spent soaking in the art. Things get intense when the action kicks off and during showdowns. There isn’t much in the way of words here, besides action words there are probably less than fifteen spoken words in this whole comic. This makes you focus more on the art and meaning behind each page. This is a comic with a story that’ll have you hooked and will evoke feelings brought about by its near-wordlessness.
This comic features black-and-white art save for the pink tattoo under the protagonists’ left eye. With expert use of shadows and the occasional double page spread the art here does a great job making us pay attention. The scenery plays a big part in this story as it is prominent in nearly every panel. In every location visited the tone is set immediately which helps immerse you in each scene. To sum it up, the backgrounds carry as much characters as the living creatures do. The expression level here is slightly below average but that is due to the fact that these are mostly hard people who hide their emotions. When they do show more heartfelt looks they come across well. The faces here are drawn with a high amount of detail. The equipment here is futuristic guns and blades. The action scenes go from quick to drawn out and you can never be too sure about which one you’re getting. There are a few moments where the sequences don’t seem to line up but you shouldn’t get lost in this. The outfits are of the sci-fi variety with knee-length robes and spacesuits.
