Lost Between Worlds Hour 1 is written by Edwin Jose De Castro with art by Elton Thomasi Dias, Maclej Radwanski, Diego Do Nascimento Lima, Gabriel Macedo, and Irma G San. Upon her return to earth Gwynn discovers that the souls aren’t where they’re supposed to be. This is a supernatural tale that has taken a turn as a confusing situation becomes dangerous. Our leading lady is Gwynn, a not-so-grim reaper who finds herself looking for answers when her soul-taking routine is interrupted. With her is Dospe, a man whose soul she is planning on taking when the time is right. The story begins with a bang but for the most part things are calm but tense as Gwynn goes around asking questions. She’ll travel to Mictlan and meet old friends that she hasn’t seen in some time. This comic takes place in a world that references more than a few different belief systems. The action here is bloody and gory with plenty of body part separation. The pacing here is slow as there is a lot of talking and more than a few wordy pages. The dialogue can get very spiritual and esoteric so it might be a bit difficult to grasp. The characters from the afterlife speak with less emotion than humans. This is a follow up that is overall a calm-before-the-storm issue but it does provide some exciting action and an interesting, altered premise.
The art here looks like a smoother, cleaned up version of older styles from the 70’s and 80’s. The color range is wide with it being brighter in the afterlife than on earth. Though the majority of the scenery tends to be the interior of buildings which can range mundane to grand, they aren’t always shown in the smaller panels. Due to the constant changing of the location we’ll see a few areas clearly influenced by ancient cultures like the Aztecs. The expression level here is about average with a decent range. Gwynn has a great range herself and tends to wear her emotions on her sleeve but the other characters are a bit stiffer either physically or emotionally. The faces are well drawn with fleshed out features so the looks are easy to decipher. The weapon of choice for Gwynn is a scythe she calls “The Grateful Dead”. The action here is very bloody and has significant dismemberment. The scenes flow well so you shouldn’t get confused.
