Killeroo Scars: Remastered is a comic created by Darren Close with art and story by Art of Awesome and colors by Beezzz Studio. A kangaroo is being bred and trained as a weapon down in Australia. This is a science fiction comic about a creature being raised one way but attempting to live another. The leading character is Rufus, he is a kangaroo who was raised in the ways of war and who is currently trying to find itself. Throughout his journey he’ll meet and become close with many people with good hearts but he’ll also come across evil folk. The story begins with a history of the legendary Killeroo before showing us Rufus’ upbringing in a lab. We’ll get a close look at his training and how he eventually moves on. The action here is very bloody with some gruesome and gory attacks. The pacing is steady and the tone fluctuates from normal and calm to serious. There are intense moments throughout with lighter more introspective sections between. The dialogue is mostly narration with no word-heavy pages but some boxes and bubbles can get thick. This is an exciting debut comic that also serves as the origin story for a kangaroo that was bred for one purpose, but is searching for another.
The art here is drawn in a style reminiscent of the 90’s with a gritty and purposely rough look. The colors here are of a realistic range and everything is well lit. The scenery is wide open desert-like spaces with scarce greenery. The environment seems arid and dry with a heat you can feel. The starting location for this story is the lab where Rufus was created but the majority of this tale takes place outdoors. The backgrounds usually show the scene but in intense moments it might be a gradient color with action lines. The expression level here is around average as Rufus is usually looking stoic/determined. Sadness and anger are the main feelings with a bit of shock thrown in. The kangaroo has a kangaroo face, which is slightly similar to a canine’s. The human faces are well detailed especially up close. The violence here is mostly physical and this is the main source of the bloody gore. There is one main action scene with smaller ones and they have good flow.
