Shaman’s Destiny #1 is a comic created by Kyrun Silva. A young man uses his relatively new powers to protect Earth. This is a supernatural comic with drama and violence and only a handful of characters. The main man for this tale is Malik, he was made a shaman and given powers by Gaea and he is attempting to find some balance between monster fighting and living his life. He has a rabbit-like creature named Jeph accompanying him on his journey. The story begins with Malik walking through the Mexican desert trying to get back home. As he thinks about how his life has gone lately he comes across an angry and aggressive creature. This takes place in a world where different kinds of supernatural things happen on a somewhat regular basis. The violence here isn’t bloody but does have gory and gruesome attacks. The pacing here is on the slower end as there can be more thoughts than talking. There are many intense moments as the tension and danger is high. The dialogue is mainly Malik narrated thoughts with some back-and-forth conversations. There are some thick text boxes and bubbles but not really any word-heavy pages. This is an interesting debut issue that introduces us to some intriguing characters in a dramatic story while providing plenty of violence.
The art here is roughly detailed in a 90’s-era style with light shading. The color range here is wide and overall on the brighter end. The scenery is grass and cactuses with some mountains in the distance. The majority of this story takes place in an abandoned, lightly rundown town both in the streets and in a diner. The backgrounds are usually a solid/gradient color but on occasion they show the actual surroundings. The expression level here is below-average as the only non-stoic looks we really get are anger and annoyance. The faces vary significantly with them being overall decent and showing the emotions clearly. The mystical powers are an electric purple and stand out when they appear. The violence is can get physical but Malik tends to use his powers. The attacks can be gruesome with gory results such as loose body parts. The action scenes tend to come in short bursts with decent flow.
