Xob the Lightning Wielder #1 is a comic written by Kyrun Silva with pencils and inks by David Jaxon and coloring by Federico Pepito Sioc Jr. and King Bola. A college student is trying to balance being a superheroine, work, and school. This is a superheroine comic with supernatural elements that stars a tired young woman. The woman in question is Tracy Lor, she has the ability to change into her Xob form which grants her powers like flight, super strength, and an axe made of lightning. She works at a diner to help her mom out money but all her work is taking a toll. The story begins with Tracy(as Xob) battling the Armored Raider while talking about how being a superheroine is making her life harder. She manages to get through the fight but has to rush off to class. The violence here is physical but with no blood or gore. The pacing is steady and the tone is a bit casual. There are a number of intense moments because of the danger and violence. The dialogue here is mainly conversational with narration providing character information. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a debut issue that gives us a good look at the lead character and the interesting story that she’s in.
The art here is decently detailed with a smoothness and a slight resemblance to some 90’s/2000’s styles. The color range here is wide and soft-looking with some notable lighting and shading. While we do see some greenery around the university most of this takes place in or around buildings so there isn’t too much scenery. The location changes frequently from the university to the diner to even the city streets. The backgrounds usually show the surroundings with extremely rare gradient colors. The expression level here is average as we get a number of different looks. The range is mostly anger and shock with some fear and annoyance. The faces are passable as the eyes are a bit small and they can look bug-eyed but most looks are still easy to decipher. The lighting powers are yellow and bright. The violence here is physical and destructive with some hard hits and occasional lighting weapons. There isn’t any blood or gore. The actions scenes flow well and tend to have a good amount of panels.
