Red Sea Legends #1 is a comic written by Chris Moses with art by kusoGG. A woman deep in debt turns to a card game to make money. This is a card-battler esports comic with science fiction and comedy elements and a decent amount of violence that also serves as a how-to-play for the game’s real world counterpart. The leading lady is Yvette, she is a gambling addict who is gifted at a variety of games but is also in deep debt. Her best friend is an avid player of Red Sea Legends and he may have a crush on her. The story starts with Yvette running from a man named Jet that she owes money to. After hiding from him she heads but makes a quick stop to play poker. The violence here is physical in the real world but it gets bloody and painful in the virtual. The pacing is a bit faster than normal overall with the battle scenes picking up the pace. The tone is like an anime/manga card battler with the same kind of dramatics. There many intense moments as the combat ebbs and flows. The dialogue is upbeat with a lot of back-and-forth and mid-fight quips, explanations, and analysis. There are no word-heavy pages here. This an exciting debut issue that both entertains and educates the reader on how to play this new card game.
The art here is in black-and-white and drawn in a style reminiscent of some manga with well-done shading. This takes place in the middle of a city so the scenery is other buildings. The main location is the arena where the battle is held but some of the other places visited are an arcade and the Shuffle Corner, a shop Yvette and her mom run. The backgrounds sometimes show the surroundings but they are usually a gradient color. The expression level here is high as these characters rarely hide how they feel. The common emotions here are happiness, anger, fear, and pain. The faces have a decent amount of detail and show the different expressions clearly. The violence is either physical, mystical, or involves bladed weapons. There is decent amount of blood here overall and no gore. The action scenes are short at first but get lengthy with good flow near the end. The women in this comic are all large-breasted and usually scantily-clad, with some of them crossing the NSFW line. A majority if not all of the cards are women and when used they become three-dimensional and attack each other. This leads to torn clothes and as a result there are a lot of bare breasts here.
