Loogie #1 is a comic created by Kadin Lane. Two people fleeing for their life enter a junkyard where a slime girl lives. This is a futuristic science fiction comic with comedy, violence, and strong personalities. The leading lady for this tale is Loogie, she is a slime girl who lives alone in a junkyard where she builds sculptures, watches movies, and overall lives a pretty extreme life. The two junkyard trespassers are Jet and Gunther: Jet is easily annoyed and has a robotic arm whereas Gunther is a big guy who goes with the flow. The story begins with Jet and Gunther speeding away from a large dragon-like creature in an arid environment. After scaring the creature off they discover that their ride has been damaged and they head towards the junkyard to find the parts needed to fix it. This takes place in a futuristic and somewhat post-apocalyptic world where things that we’d find strange aren’t out of the ordinary. The violence here is physical with brutal attacks but there isn’t any blood or gore. The pacing alternates between steady and fast and the overall tone is comedic. The intensity gets high due to danger and violence. The dialogue is all conversation with a lot of back-and-forth, humor, and aggressive confusion. There aren’t any word-heavy pages here. This is an exciting debut issue for a comedic series that stars an energetic and fun-loving slime girl.
The art here is drawn in a smoothly detailed, modern style with a bit of cartoonishness. The color palette is bright and colorful with a nice focus on lighting. The natural scenery is rocky and dry with mountains, cliffs, and plateaus. The main location is the junkyard where Loogie lives which has many different areas contraptions. The backgrounds will consist of junk most of the time but overall this comic does a good job of showing the surroundings though occasionally we’ll see some gradient colors. The expression level here is high as these characters wear their emotions on their sleeve. The range consists of happiness, confusion, anger, annoyance, fear, shock, and joy. The detail in the faces is decent but they can get cartoonishly animated so all the looks come across strong and clearly. The violence here is mostly physical with Loogie using her slime to pummel foes. There isn’t any blood or gore but there are some brutal hits. The action scenes flow well and have a good amount of panels and are strewn throughout. The women here are curvy with large breasts and there are numerous lewd/sexy shots and poses. The lone man is muscular and built like a linebacker.
