Iverrian: Curse of the Crown #3 is a comic written and illustrated by Luka Brico. A princess travels to a nightmare realm where she runs into all kinds of strangeness. This is a supernatural fantasy comic with a lot of violence, drama, and esoteric introspection. The leading lady for this is Lissa, she is a princess as her father is King Varon, the leader who defeated the Roquashi. Lissa is an inquisitive person who thinks quickly on her feet and can power through unfortunate situations. King Varon is a skilled fighter whose battle prowess propelled him to great heights. This story begins with Varon, not yet a king, telling the story of his humble beginnings to the man he is today. This is a sort of montage with combat interspersed with character introductions and short monologues. Though the first fourth focuses on King Varon, the rest of it is seen through Lissa’s eyes. The violence here is bloody and somewhat gory with some unsettling moments. The pacing is steady and the tone is like that of a fantasy horror Alice in Wonderland. The intensity is high as there are moments of danger, terror, and violence. The dialogue sounds like something from a British period drama with some occasional big words. Varon likes to narrate but Lissa tends to speak out loud. There aren’t any word-heavy pages, if anything it’s the opposite. This is an interesting installment that focuses on a new character and their journey through a strange realm full of oddities and danger.
The art is highly and somewhat smoothly detailed with thick outlines and strong shading. The colors tend to be dark in tone with a lot of purple, dark blue, and gray. The scenery is rough and jagged like the inside of a cave with rough edges, shells and fungi-like organisms. There are also eyeballs and teeth both strewn about and embedded in the terrain. The backgrounds usually show the surrounding which keeps you fully locked into what is transpiring here. The expression level here is above average as Lissa goes through a lot of emotions on this journey. Some of the main looks shown here are shock, fear, anger, confusion, and sadness. The faces have a good amount of detail and they tend to show the different expressions clearly, even in the non-human creatures. The beings here have many forms from the bulbous and teeth-filled to the slender and spiky even to the slick and slimy. The violence here is delivered via axes, blades, and wave-like attacks. There are bloody and explosive moments with light gore and some body horror. The action scenes usually come in short bursts with a generally smooth flow. The women here are curvy with large breasts and they wear revealing clothing along with there being numerous lewd/sexy poses and angles. The men rarely wear shirts.
