Prometheus in Chains #1 is a comic written by Rich Davis with art by Jordan DiRenzo and colors by Alex Zief. Dr. Frankenstein struggles with grief after his wife’s death. This is a dramatic comic that deals with depression and loneliness that stars a scientist. The main man here is Dr.Victor Frankenstein, he is currently a struggling alcoholic who constantly thinks of his now-deceased wife. His wife died from cancer; she was a scientist as well. Both of them worked on the Manhattan Project. This story begins with Victor sitting on the edge of his bed holding a bottle, looking back at the empty space on his bed. He attempts to get up but he stumbles to the ground, looking at the sky, then he gets sick. There isn’t any real violence here but there is gruesomeness and light gore. The pacing here is fast and the tone is very dramatic. The intensity gets high a couple of times. The dialogue here is all conversational with a little bit of back-and-forth. There are no word-heavy pages, if anything it is the opposite. This is a debut issue that focuses on the present misery and sadness of the main character while also delving into his past.
The art here is drawn in a detailed modern style with strong shading. The color palette here is gloomy with a lot of grayish and faded tones. Besides a look at space and celestial bodies there isn’t any natural scenery here. This takes primarily in the home of the Frankensteins which has a bedroom with a skylight and a large library full of books with an adjacent lab. The backgrounds are split between showing the actual surroundings and just being a gradient/solid color. The expression level here is around average as Victor gives off strong, clear looks. The emotions are mainly grief-based with some shock and rare moments of happiness. The faces have detail ranging from decent to high with well-done features like eyes and teeth. There isn’t any violence or blood but there are some gruesome sights as well as light gore. There is a single page of action.
