From Parts Unknown #1 is a comic written by Adriano Ariganello with art by Daniel Caval and colors by JP Jordan. Two wrestler brothers head to a small town where something strange is going on. This is a supernatural pro wrestling comic with some drama, grappling, and an air of mystery. The main men here are the brothers Bruno and Pietro. Bruno is older with a calm demeanor and grizzled aura about him while Pietro has wide-eyes and a chip on his shoulder. They’ll run into some notable people like the town sheriff, the UDCW promoter, and the wrestler Golden Boy. This story begins on a cold morning at a diner where the brothers are trying to get some more coffee. A customer accosts them for being wrestlers and tells them to get out of town, this leads to a large brawl. The violence here is hard-hitting in the pro wrestling style with some blood and light gore. The pacing is steady and the tone is mysterious with a strange town vibe. There are many violently intense moments along with some dramatic ones. The dialogue is conversational with good back-and-forth and a lot of aggression. There are no word-heavy pages here. This debut issue sets the scene with a mysterious town, intriguing inhabitants, and destructive brawling.
The art here is drawn in a semi-cartoonish, stylized way. The color palette here seems to be realistic with blue-green hues. Aside from snow-covered land and barren trees there isn’t really any natural scenery here. The main location here is the arena where the show is supposed to take place, from the hallways to the offices even to the locker rooms. The backgrounds are split between showing the actual surroundings and being a gradient/solid color. The expression level here is a bit above average as these characters can change looks multiple times per page. Emotions on display here are happiness, anger, annoyance, fear, shock and confusion. The faces here have decent detailing and can get animated so they usually show the different expressions well. The violence here is mostly physical though a chair and table get involved. There is some blood and gruesomeness leading to light gore. The action scenes tend to come in two-page bursts with a flow you’ll be able to follow.
