START AGAIN #1 is a comic written by Jaime Me with art by Toni Doya and colors by Sean Callahan. A superhero’s life is turned upside down after a very embarrassing moment. This is a superhero comic that takes place in the UK and has a lot of messy drama, a bit of violence, and rom-com vibes. The main man here is Jump, real name Ajay. He is a superhero with super strength and durability who can jump very high. The leading lady is Natalie Brown, she runs into Ajay at a club and she seems to be very nice. This story begins when Ajay enters the bathroom at a club and accidentally enters the stall that is already occupied by Natalie. What happens next is an awkward, flirtatious conversation that eventually leads to her bedroom where adult activities unfold. There is light destruction here with some violence that isn’t bloody or gory. The pacing is somewhat fast-paced and the tone is like that of a 2000’s era rom-com with a superhero. There are more than a few intense moments due to violence and drama. The dialogue is primarily conversational with a UK-talking style and slang as well as occasional thought narration from Ajay. There are no word-heavy pages. This is an exciting debut issue starring a couple that is forced to deal with major revelations before the relationship even gets underway.
The art here is drawn in a detailed, modern style with well done lighting. The color palette is realistic with a very large range. There isn’t really any natural scenery here as this takes place in and around buildings, and they are usually close together. The location changes frequently from city streets to various apartments to the club. The backgrounds here usually show the immediate surroundings which results in the dramatic scenes feeling weightier. The expression level here is high as these characters react strongly to what goes on. Emotions we’ll see here include shock, anger, happiness, fear, sadness, depression, and annoyance then this is for you. The faces have an overall above-average amount of detail so the different looks tend to be clear. The violence here is mainly physical with some destruction occurring. There isn’t any blood or gore. The action scenes come in short bursts that have an unconfusing flow.
