HyperGeist #1 is a comic written by Scott Wilke, Raymond Skroback & Mike Tener with art by Cari Salviejo and colors by A.Z. Volt. A robot prostitute in New Tokyo is using her abilities to stealthily gather information. This is a futuristic science fiction comic that has cyberpunk vibes, sex, light drama, stealthiness, and many bright lights. The leading lady here is June, she is a robotic woman made for sexual purposes and lately she’s been doing some sneaking around and modding that her employer would not approve of. This story begins with June entering a nightclub called Cobra Cabana which has strippers and public drug use. She seductively propositions a man named Jim and leads him to a room while asking him questions about his life. This takes place in a cyberpunk world with advanced technology and robot parts and enhancements. The pacing here is a bit faster than average and tone is like that of a big-city futuristic flick but much sexier. There are a few dramatically intense moments. The dialogue is conversational with good back-and-forth and no word-heavy pages. This is an entrancing debut issue that shows the main character in her element while giving us small hints about something bigger going on.
The art here is drawn in a detailed, somewhat smooth, modern style with very strong lighting and shading. Pink, orange, and purple are the main colors here and they can sometimes be shiny or glossy. As this takes place deep in the heart of a futuristic city there isn’t any natural scenery to speak of. There are a few places visited from clubs to downtown streets and they all have high-tech equipment, big screens, and that neon electric brightness common to the cyberpunk genre. The backgrounds usually show the actual surroundings though on rare occasions it’ll be an action line-filled gradient. The expression level here is high as there are many strong and subtle looks. Some of the emotions we’ll see are happiness, fear, shock, anger, and more sensual ones. The faces have an overall good amount of detail which leads to the different expressions being very clear. There isn’t any violence, blood, or gore here. There is a single page of action. Just about every woman here is in something revealing or just naked.
