HyperGeist #2 is a comic written by Scott Wilke with art by Cari Salviejo and colors by AZ Volt. June uses some new technology to infiltrate a laboratory. This is a futuristic science fiction comic with strong cyberpunk elements, dangerous drama, erotic moments, and electric violence. The leading lady here is June, she is a robot designed for a sexual purpose who is trying to become more by getting modifications and investigating something called the HyperGeist Drive. Ren is a police officer who is in love with June and tries to help her. This story begins with Ren questioning June about reports of a robot matching her description causing damage to a holo-projector the night before. She denies being the culprit and Ren inquires about her skinless hand which leads to a conversation about how she needs to be more careful. This takes place in a futuristic cyberpunk world with all the different kinds of advanced technology that would entail. The pacing here is pretty fast overall aside from one slower section in the middle. The tone is like that of a stealthy thriller and there are many violently and dramatically intense moments. The dialogue is conversational with frequent back-and-forth and light tech talk. There aren’t any word-heavy pages here. This is an exciting sequel issue that answers a couple of questions and violently raises a few more as June continues her search for the HyperGeist Drive.
The art here is somewhat smoothly detailed and drawn in a modern style with a strong focus on lighting and shading. The color palette has a realistic range overall but primarily features pink, purple, red, and green. While there are a number of outdoor scenes it takes place in a very futuristic and cyberpunky city so there isn’t any natural scenery. There are two primary locations: June’s room and a large lab. The backgrounds usually show the immediate and distant surroundings with both fuzzy and cloudy gradients being rare. The expression level here is high as reactions to the different situations are constants. Emotions on display here include: happiness, confusion, fear, shock, and some sensual looks. The faces have a good amount of detail so both the overt and subtle looks usually come across clearly. The violence here is delivered both physically and via an electric ribbon that can be manipulated. There isn’t any blood or real gore as these are robots but there are gruesome attacks that lead to parts, wires, and leakage all over the place. There is one long action scene with a smooth flow and traversal sequences. The women here are dressed in revealing outfits or are just straight up naked. There are also lewd and suggestive poses.
