Vanya: The Lost Warrior #6 is a comic written by Mike Tener with illustrations by Zoran Jovicic with colors by Bryan Magnaye. This ragtag party goes their separate ways as they prepare to battle the Torridians. This is a futuristic science fiction comic with strong militaristic elements, graphic sex, gruesome and gory violence, and this all takes place in a prehistoric time. The leading lady here is Vanya, she’s a Time Guard from the future skilled in combat whose mission has turned from survival to retrieval as she is on a mission to find the hidden armories so that the Torridians can be repelled. Serah is a more recent Time Guard who was rushed from the future when the Torridians initially attacked. Niya is a former Time Guard current Bone Tribe member who has a different method of battling this alien threat. This story begins with Vanya recounting battles she’s fought in the past and how that led to her joining the guard. She also compares war to sex and then things take a frisky turn. This takes place mainly in a prehistoric time both near and in a jungle. The violence is very gruesome and this leads to blood and gore. The pacing here is steady overall and there is a desperate tone that is a mix of Jurassic Park and Predator. There many violently intense moments here. The dialogue is mostly conversational with good back-and-forth but there is a decent amount of narration from Vanya. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a riveting issue that gets very violent as the moves the Torridians are making put the humans in a more precarious and desperate position.
The art here is drawn in a smoothly detailed modern style with a focus on lighting and shading. The color palette here is predominantly green and brown as this takes place in a jungle but there is a lot of grey for rocks/stone. The scenery also serves as the primary location with most of it taking place under the cover of thick forests with lakes, rivers, open fields with high grass, mountains, and volcanoes. There aren’t many scenes in the same place as the perspective shifts and these characters do a lot of moving. The backgrounds usually show the immediate surroundings which adds something more to the different moments. The expression level here is around average as most looks are hard but we do get some reactions. Emotions seen here include: shock, fear, anger, confusion, and more sensual ones. The faces have an above-average amount of detail and they tend to do a good job of showing the different expressions clearly. The Torridians are purple, have legs like horses, and are taller and stronger than humans. The violence is delivered with firearms, high-tech robotics, and physically among other things. There are many gruesome attacks that lead to a large of blood and heavy, dismembering gore. The action scenes tend to come in lengthy bursts with a smooth flow and many angles. All the women here have large breasts with revealing clothes and/or nudity being the norm.
