Alice: Lost in Wonderland #1 is a comic written and illustrated by Fish Lee. The Queen of Hearts has put out a bounty on someone close to Alice! This is a supernatural science fiction fantasy comic that is heavily influenced by Alice in Wonderland and that features heavy violence, deep lore, time shenanigans, and comedy. The leading lady here is Alice, after spending many years in Wonderland she has gained a reputation as an accomplished hunter. She has a habit of making rash and impulsive decisions, often to the dismay of Big Tin. Big Tin is a clockwork automaton who has been Alice’s companion nearly her entire time in Wonderland. Some other notable characters are the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat. This story begins with Alice waking up in the morning and heading into town with Big Tin. She checks the job board while being bothered by the Cheshire Cat and it is from them that she learns about the bounty on the White Rabbit. This takes place in a fantasy world with some modern and futuristic technology. There are some gruesome attacks that lead to plenty of blood and some gore. The pace here is slightly slower than average as there can be a lot to take in and this has the tone of a classic story set somewhat in modern times. There are a number of dramatic spikes and few of the violent variety. The dialogue is aggressive and comedic with some thought narration for exposition. This is an entertaining debut issue that is taking a new spin on Alice in Wonderland that has strong characters, a straightforward plot, and intriguing lore.
The art here is drawn in a detailed semi-cartoonish modern style with decent lighting and shading. This has a large and very colorful palette with green and blue being very prominent. For scenery there are tall relatively thin mountains covered in grass and trees. There are a number of locations here from the general outdoors to a crowded market and even a shop. Backgrounds tend to show the actual surroundings which helps make this world seem alive and lived in. The expression level here is high as Alice and other characters rarely hide how they feel. Emotions here are mostly aggressive and angry with rare happiness. Faces in this comic range in detail from decent to above-average but due to the cartoonish element the looks they show tend to be strong and clear. There are many different creatures from talking animals to alien-like bugs. Most of the weapons here are either swords or firearms. The violence can get very gruesome with pools of blood and some gore. There are a couple short action scenes with decent flow and implied brutality. Alice wears a crop top that barely covers her breasts and her nipples are always hard.
