INDGO: GENESIS PART 1 is a comic written by Richard Santana with art by Augustine Morrison. Mass evacuations from Earth lead to destruction, violence, and confusion about an impending threat. This is a futuristic science fiction supernatural comic with heavy apocalyptic drama, political intrigue, advanced technology, and a large cast. The Genesis is a space station and its crew are the stars here and they are: the gruff and tough Captain Alexander Wolfe, the fighter with a daughter Kaito Ashigaru, nuclear scientist Dr. Albrecht Odysseus, lead excavator Damian Ortega, and former spy and drone operator Valeriya Agapova. This story begins with Wolfe and Ortega mining helium-3 on the moon they receive a code red which requires their immediate evacuation. These two rush to get on the space station as asteroids strike, crumbling everything around them. Back on Earth people are watching the moon being pummeled and the reactions are vastly different between average people and members of the elite. This takes place in a world with advanced space travel and AI-like systems, as well as some body augments and upgrades. Violence here can be explosive and destructive but there isn’t any blood or gore. This moves at a slower pace than average, partly due to confusion, as there can be a lot to take in due to shifting perspectives and constant movement. This has the tone of a futuristic apocalyptic disaster movie with a thick atmosphere of desperation. There are a number of intense violent scenes but many more dramatic and suspenseful ones. The dialogue is overall very conversational with a lot of technical talk and deep discussions from both humans and robots. There are at least a couple word-heavy pages. This is an intriguing debut issue that shows the different reactions and revelations that come about during an apocalyptic event.
The art here is drawn in a detailed modern style with strong lighting and shading. This boasts a very large color palette with a wide range and predominantly dark/faded tones. There is a lot of scenery here from large bodies of water to the cratered terrain on the Moon. The location is always changing due to different perspectives from an arid landscape in Texas to the far reaches of space surrounding a space station. We’ll see cold sterile labs and the rocky low gravity of the Moon. There are even underwater scenes and plenty underground spots. Backgrounds here usually show the location in different ways from blurry to stylized to fuzzy. The expression level here is above-average as most of the characters here have realistic reactions to these shocking events. Emotions are all over from the aggressive and determined to the somber and stressed; there is also a large amount of shock, fear, and confusion. Faces have a higher amount of detail and they tend to show the different looks very clearly. Weapons here include laser guns, explosives, and a few more classic implements. The violence gets very destructive environmentally and though there are some brutal attacks there isn’t any blood or gore. Action scenes come in frequent bursts and have a good flow with a higher panel count.
