Dust Bunny #2 is a comic written and lettered by Jason Martin with art by Mauricio Mora. Dust Bunny enters a saloon full of trigger happy Shark Bros. while in search of a drink. This is a futuristic science fiction post-apocalyptic comic that has gruesome violence, a bit of sexiness, and very unique economics. The leading lady here is called Dust Bunny, she is what’s known as a “bounty duster”, which is someone who makes a living killing the water-thirsty zombie-like people everyone calls “dusters”. This story begins right where the last one ended with Dust Bunny walking in into a bar and having all the patrons pull their guns on her. She ignores them and walks up to the bar where she orders two drinks; this purchase requires an unusual method of payment. This takes place in a world where the extreme heat has dried up the oceans which has led to old viruses making a return and new creatures appearing. Violence here is very gruesome, bloody, and gory. This moves at a faster-than-average pace and it has a sci-fi Western-like tone. This has some dramatic bits but the violence is more prominent and intense. The dialogue has an overall witty and snarky vibe and there is a notable amount of informative thought narration from Dust Bunny. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a riveting sequel issue that shows us how dangerous and particular life is like in this very hot, water-deficient world.
The art here is drawn in a detailed modern style with very good lighting and shading. The color palette mainly consists of cold, metallic grays and browns with just about everything looking old and faded. For scenery we have a lot of dirt/sand as far as the eye can see with the occasional cliff. Most of this story takes place in this town’s saloon with has a main room that can hold about thirty people, a bathroom, and a storage room. Backgrounds usually show the actual surroundings which really helps sell the rough, post-apocalyptic feel. The expression level here is below average as Dust Bunny spends most of her time being stone-faced. We will see some happiness, irritation, anger, and creepy looks. Faces have an above-average amount of detail which results in most expressions being very clear. Weapons deployed here include firearms, blades, and teeth. The violence is very bloody and gruesome with gore all over the place. There is one main action scene and it is lengthy with a lot to take in. Dust Bunny has large breasts, looks like a model, and walks around in a bikini that is occasionally partly covered by a poncho.
