Against The World #2 is a comic created by Joshua Metzger & Marcel Dupree with art by Oscar Celestini. As our leading lady is about to be sacrificed elsewhere a plan is being put into motion. There is a bunch of fighting and a decent amount of explanations in this issue as things start to pick up. While the “evil” side does have its share of prominent characters our focus is drawn to their opposition. Our key players are a very special young lady Nefura, a witch doctor named Papa Wagori, and a very aggressive resistance fighter. The plot picks up right where the last one ended and things start off slow but speed up quick. There is fighting all over the place and things do get grisly. Dialogue sounds like normal American English one moment and something out of a fantasy story the next. A few pages do have a high word count that’ll seem out of place for the situation but it won’t ruin your reading. This is an issue that serves as a good follow up for the last one and a intriguing set up for the next one.
A despondent dungeon, sprawling courtyard, and roaming plains are just some of the locations we visit that are staples to the fantasy genre. They aren’t particularly eye-catching but they do fit the setting. These characters try to be expressive but the looks don’t come through that well. They have anger down pat but everything else looks dialed in. The faces here are drawn with enough features and markings so as not to confuse you so face sameness isn’t an issue, but if look really close you’ll similarities. There are a number of skin colors here, mostly shades of pink. Outfits here are standard fantasy fare with some Greco-Roman vibes. The action scenes don’t have the greatest flow and there is a lot of chopping going on with limbs deciding to go solo. Avoid this if gore makes you squeamish.
