Against The World #1 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree, Joshua Metzger, and Alexandre Benhossi. It takes place in a fantasy world with various as-of-yet unnamed races of creatures, some resembling humans and others being very unique. The unnamed kingdom this comic takes place in is plagued by random eruptions that people attribute to the planet dying. The kingdom is also dealing with what they call terrorists(they refer to themselves freedom fighters)who are attempting to carry out raids. The main story follows a young lady named Nefura as she discovers her life is much more important than she previously thought. This is the first issue in a five part mini-series, so this issue is just the beginning of what should be a riveting fantasy tale.
Now this is a fantasy comic and that all but guarantees the appearance of classic creatures such as elves, dwarfs, orcs, goblins, and humans. Alas, none of these races are ever named in this comic but using my powers of deduction I believe I’ve seen regular elves, dark elves, no humans, Greedo, and Watto. The outfits seen really keep you aware of what class each characters is in. The rich are shiny and more gaudy whereas the much less wealthy maintain the browns and greys. Because of this the comic isn’t as colorful as a fantasy story might normally be, but that helps to tell the story.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like fantasy and short-but-sweet series’, you might want to get in on this. Also a good pickup if you’re a fan of female protagonists.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“If you can’t save her, I’ll find someone who can.”
