Babylon Working #3 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree & Joshua Metzger with art by Mannix Francisco. One man is on the verge of achieving his goals and everyone else is just trying to save themselves. Our main ladies are on the verge of getting away but due to unforeseen circumstances are forced to flee and are separated. This is a story where the goals and motivations of the various characters are vastly different. I’m not even sure if there are really any good guys here. This issue is a sort of come down from the high pace and also a good setup for the next one. There is still a healthy amount of action but it is less gruesome than the last issue. A good amount of destruction though. There is nothing but dialogue here, and it is very good. Arguments, deception, bad plans, there is a bunch of talking in this issue. No overly worded pages here, lots of smooth reading. This series has shifted from a crime story, to one of survival, and now tilts toward the unknown.
This art has gotten better with every issue, very smooth with close attention to the smaller details. Most of this story takes place outside so the main background is what looks to be a sunset. We do get some interior shots of a building but it’s mainly metal walls and floors. The characters in this series have been very expressive and this issue is no different. There are a lot of little details to notice in the various panels that add just a little bit to the story. There is some face sameness but the overall characters have enough differences to keep them somewhat unique. The monsters here look like something out of Doom and Fallout, which is a good amount of creepiness. Most of the action here is of the environment-wrecking kind but some people do feel it up close. People do be getting naked here but it is for non-sexy reasons.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like women-led stories with at least three different uh, “tagonists” with various goals this might be for you. Also for those who like sci-fi and supernatural tales.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
R.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“We’ll step out and give them the damsel in distress act.”
