Bad Wabbit #1 is a comic written by Anthony Castro and edited by Chris Philbrook with art by Tommy Guns. An alcoholic, angry rabbit works as a bouncer for a bar. This is a science fiction post-apocalyptic comic that has some drama and heavy violence. The main man for this tale is Wabbit, he is a rabbit who is always near a drink and has an abrasive personality. The bar owner is a monkey in a spacesuit. There are no humans here, only animals, and most of them are anthropomorphic. This story begins with Wabbit waking up on his couch with a headache after a night of drinking. After a quick hurl he heads over to the bar(which is across the street) to get some whiskey. This comic takes place in a world where humans went extinct due to pollution and radiation so only the animals are left. The violence here is mostly physical with blood and strong gore. The pacing is steady and the tone has empty wasteland, post-apocalyptic vibes. The intensity goes up due to violence and danger. The dialogue is a bit country and mostly conversational with some occasional narration from an unknown source. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is an exciting debut issue that focuses on its main character while also fleshing out the supporting cast and it also provides good groundwork for what should be an interesting story.
The art here is drawn in a slightly cartoonish, smooth, modern style with strong use of lighting and shading. The color palette features a lot of white, gray, and black but there are some more vibrant hues present. For scenery we have a couple shots of wide, barren landscape along with multiple images of the starry sky and the objects within like the moon and the planets. The main location for this story is the nearby bar which looks like a Western saloon on the inside but on the outside it is spaceship. A few other places are visited like Wabbit’s trailer and an alley. The expression level here is high as these characters wear their emotions on their sleeves. The most common looks here are anger, annoyance, shock, rage, fear, and sadness. The faces here are a good mix of animalistic and human and can get animated so all the different expressions come across clearly. The creatures here have the same number of digits as their non-anthropomorphic counterparts and they maintain the fur and other specific attributes. The violence here is physical with the occasional gun and there is a decent of blood and an instance of strong gore. Most of the action takes place in one scene and the panel count is high; this leads to everything flowing smoothly.
