Blood N’ Bullets #2 is a comic created by Monte Michael Moore. This tale of a battle between vampires and humans in the Wild West comes to an end. Our leading ladies are Bloody Mary, a gunfighter with a reputation and Blackbird, Mary’s Squaw sister-in-law who is handy with a knife. After the events of the previous issue our heroines are left looking for revenge. This is a plot with some unexpected and expected twists. If you’ve ever seen a Western you can predict the general direction of the story but the journey there isn’t as straightforward. And this is a very violent issue; death is all over the place and guns are somehow never in their holsters. This is a thick issue and when it comes to pacing it can feel like it hops around too much. You won’t get confused but you will wish some scenes lasted longer. The dialogue here can unfortunately get really cliché at times. Sometimes people speak in exposition or talk like they’re reading a script. And be prepared for Shakespeare quotes. Despite the dialogue pitfalls this comic does not have an excessive word problem. To sum it up, this is an alright conclusion to a supernatural Western tale.
This comic is drawn in a no-nonsense way and it has as many colors as the Wild West allowed. There are really only three different locations here: outside, inside a house, and inside a saloon. It takes place in the Wild West so I can’t fault the locations for looking similar, that’s how it was. Expression-wise this comic is subpar. These characters have the stiffest of faces and even when they get angry or happy there isn’t enough going on to give the look any impact. For our two heroines face sameness is a slight problem but they have different skin colors and outfits so you won’t confuse them. The men don’t have this problem as bad due to beards, scars, and hats. Pistols, rifles, shotguns, and knives are among some of the weapons we’ll see used. The amount of action here is at a level required by all Western. The scenes flow well when it’s hand-to-hand and you won’t get lost in the gunplay. The closest thing to a character being sexualized is Bloody Mary’s top, but no one acknowledges it at all.
