Boom Queens #2 is a comic written by Ramon Govea and published by Myth Division. The first issue left us hanging but now we finally learn these ladies’ names! Lola is the redhead, Antoinette has the rainbow hair, and K-Lynx’s favorite color must be black. This issue is chock full of action and folk are moving fast. Something I saw in this issue that the previous one lacked was personality. All the mains seemed one-dimensional and didn’t even talk that much the first time around, but here everybody is talking and making light jokes and snide remarks. Now when it comes to the storytelling I was getting a bit confused, this issue introduces a bunch of new characters and offers up key information that isn’t fully explained. Maybe I was reading too quick. Normally the follow up to a debut issue is more of a setup to future installments but this comic just keeps hitting from multiple angles. As I stated earlier the dialogue has had a marked improvement and this story is well-paced. Though this story is action-packed and moves fast you might want to slow down so you can keep up.
This issue takes place entirely inside a building so the location variation is almost zero. Expressions have taken a step up from the last issue as the ladies show multiple looks including shock, fear, and terror. Whatever face sameness was present among the ladies the first time around is absolutely gone here. The hair is still flowing and I’m shocked it doesn’t get in the way of all the action. The outfits are unique to each character and they give you a glimpse of their personality. Just about every other page of this comic has action in it so be prepared. Combat flows well with some nice surprises. Every woman in this comic is built like a model but beyond that and their semi-revealing there isn’t much sexualization going on. No gratuitous shots here.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like women on a mission who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty you might want to give this a look. A post-apocalyptic society, mysterious enemies, lightly alluded to backstories, it’s all here.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Just on the other side of crazy, huh?”
