Bulletproof #1 is a comic written by John A. Rhodes with lineart by Rully Akbar and colors by Avery Ferdinand. Chaotika attempts to move on with her life in the after the events of Nothing-Man. This is superheroine science fiction comic with drama, fighting, and political intrigue. The leading lady for this tale is Chaotika, the sister of Nothing-Man who is suffering from memory loss and a lack of real companions. She is partying hard and getting around. This story begins with a superpowered woman wreaking havoc in another country before shifting to Chaotika waking up with no memory of the night before, with a woman in her bed. From here we get a slight recap of prior events as seen in Nothing-Man which gives us a look at what Chaotika is mentally going through. The action here has hard hits with light blood and no gore. The pacing is steady with a tone that isn’t too lighthearted or serious. There are some intense moments here. Aside from some recapping early on the dialogue is mostly conversational with no word-heavy pages. This is the debut issue for a Nothing-Man sequel series and it focuses on an interesting character that we haven’t gotten too close of a look at.
The art here is detailed with a smoothness and purposeful lighting. The coloring here is relatively realistic with a good range. This takes place primarily in cities so the scenery is all buildings of different heights against the nicely lit sky. The main location for the story is the Webb Tower in New Paradise City which is where Chaotika lives. We’ll also visit DC and a European country but it is all fancy buildings and/or city streets. The backgrounds are about 50-50 for showing the scene or being a gradient color. The expression level here is average as there is a slight stiffness to the characters. Most of the looks are angry and concerned. The faces are drawn well enough that looks come across clearly they just seem a bit too smooth. The violence is a bit bloody with a lot of explosive destruction. The action scenes have both good length and flow. There are long nude moments with some sexual scenes.
