Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman #0 Deluxe is a comic written by Sam Johnson with art by Bruno Letizia, Chunlin Zhao, and C Granda. A woman uses her voodoo powers/skills to be a hitwoman. This is a supernatural comic with some mystery and horror elements and a dark tone. The leading lady for this tale is Cabra Cini, after living a rough life addicted to drugs she turns to Voodoo and manages to set herself free. Now she offers her services to those in need. The story begins with Cabra performing a ritual in order to find her target. This takes her to the dimension known as “The Infinite” where she is, but shouldn’t be, a frequent visitor. The violence here is physical and bloody with a few rough attacks as well as some light gore. The pacing is overall a tad bit slower than average and the tone is dark and a bit brooding. There are more than a few intense moments due to high amounts of danger and violence. The dialogue is mostly conversational but there is a decent amount of narration via Cabra Cini’s thoughts. Some sentences are repeated almost verbatim and there is at least one word-heavy page. This is an interesting issue that shows us the dangerous day-to-day of a woman who uses her skills in voodoo to be a hired gun.
The art here is detailed with thick line and drawn in a style reminiscent of comics from the 90’s and 2000’s. The coloring matches the style with a wide range as well as some significant shading in the first part of this issue. In the real world there isn’t much to speak for scenery as things take place in the inner city. “The Inifinite” however is long sandy/rocky stretches of land with many statues. The main locations in the city are apartments and corner store as well as a bar. The backgrounds are split between showing the surroundings and being gradient color. The expression level here is on the lower end as the characters here rarely show something different from their initial look. The main emotion here is anger with some fear, pain, and rare smiles. The faces are well-drawn with some smoothness and show the different looks clearly for the most part. The mystical effects here are on the darker end but will still catch your eye. The violence here involves bladed weapons and guns with some rough, lightly gory attacks and a good amount of blood. The action scenes feature a high amount of panels which makes everything flow smoothly with little confusion.
