Camp Bleh is a comic written by Matt Garvey with art by Rosie Hague. While out camping a group of kids tell scary stories. This is a horror comic with supernatural elements and comedy that stars a group of kids. The children in question are Jack, Chris, Seth, and Becca. Though they share similarities they also have things that are unique about them. This tale begins with these four sitting around a campfire bored out of their minds and phoneless. Seth suggests that they tell ghost stories and he starts things off but is immediately interrupted by Jack with questions. There isn’t any violence here and the pacing is steady with a creeping, scary tone. There are a few intense moments of the horror variety as danger increases. The dialogue is conversational with a lot of back-and-forth and childlike humor. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a comic that focuses on the scares and laughs that can come from telling horror stories with your friends.
The art here has a decent level of detail and is cartoonish and stylized with good shading. There are some brighter colors here but outside of the kids most of the colors are dark in tone. The scenery plays a big role here as it also serves as the main location. The campfire is surrounded by a forest thick with trees and shrubs on one side and a lake on the other. The backgrounds usually show the scenery but on rare occasion it’ll just be a gradient color. The expression level here is high as these kids don’t really hide how they feel. There is happiness and fear with a bit of anger and irritation. Due to the cartoonish art the faces can get animated so the looks come across clearly. The action scenes have a decent amount of panels and flow well.
