Chayoma – Curse of the Jangura #1 is a comic written by Peter Chizoba Daniel & Isaiah Ovie Daniel with art by Jimmy King & Ape Ekene Polycap. We follow a very powerful assassin as they go on missions for the good of the empire. This is the tale of a woman who questions the path she was supposedly destined to take. The main lady in this story is Chayoma, a woman born with abilities that shock those around and make her a prime target for the elite force called the Jangura. The story almost plays out like a montage with the Jangura going out and completing mission after mission under the orders of the high priestess. There is a lot of action here with just about every other page featuring violence. Because the story is told montage-like the pacing is pretty fast but we are offered moments of respite. The dialogue here is easy to understand and it is more proper English than casual. There are a few wordy pages especially when they are trying to get some story across. This is an entertaining introduction to a series about someone treated as a human weapon questioning why and how they’re being used.
This is some very detailed art with a large range of colors. This comic moves from place to place but nearly every scene takes place outside. The expression level here is decent as most of the characters only show anger or shock, but it comes across well. The faces here are full of details and most of the characters have some kind of face paint. Now it will be difficult to differentiate between people but I wouldn’t say it is face sameness; it’s the fact that nearly everyone is bald. We do have some body variety but nearly pretty much everybody is ripped. The violence here is mostly done at the end of a blade but we do have some mystical attacks that stand out. The action scenes are normally done in spurts so they are all easy to follow.
