Cyberpunk Force Season 1 is a comic written by Ben Slabak with art by Romano Molenaar and lettering by HdE. A group of bounty hunters with some bad luck attempt to complete important missions. This is a cyberpunk tale full of characters with body modifications and that feeling of desperation. This bounty hunting team is made up of four members: Kade, the gruffish leader, Glitch, a man suffering from data rot, Overdrive, a large man with many enhancements, and Cotton, the newest member with robotic arms and an upbeat personality. Also hounding this group is an android based off of Minxx. The plot begins with these hunters on a mission and we get to see a glimpse of their specialties. There is some nice characterization here that fleshes these people out and gives you a glimpse into how they view the task at hand. This being a cyberpunk story means there is a nice blend of the high-tech and the rundown in the environment. The action is explosive and electric but there isn’t much in the way of nastiness due to the parts in question being robotic. This story is paced well with a good balance of the fast and stressful with the slow and calm. The dialogue lacks the cyberpunky slang stories like this tend to have but the dialogue is still good. A couple pages do say a mouthful but I wouldn’t call them wordy. This is a debut comic with a good amount of action and starring a cast of characters that you’ll be interested in following.
This is a very detailed comic with a good amount of things to look at. I had a black-and-white version of this comic and I do not know if a color version exists so just keep that in mind. The scenery is metallic with tall buildings and occasional piles of junk. This story takes place on top of buildings, inside crowded areas, and in factories. The expressions here are well done and have a pretty significant range. Faces here are detailed down to the teeth and remind me a bit of 90’s comics. Some characters are stoic and others like to let their emotions show. Bodies here vary greatly with all the implants and replacement limbs which results in them looking more unique. Blasters that shoot lasers(I think, it is harder to tell in black-and-white) are the most used weapon. The action scenes are easy to follow and most of the destruction is of the robotic variety. The men in this comic seem dressed for a colder climate while if you looked at the women you’d think it was warmer.
