Damsel from D.I.S.T.R.E.S.S. #2 is a comic written by Andrew Clemson with artwork by Maurice Mora. This story starts off with a glimpse into Rebecca’s youth as she does some sword training. We get some more information about her father and maybe a hint about why he left. Fast-forward back to the present and the Dwarf King Olaf gives us the mission of rescuing his daughter, Princess Estrid, from her kidnapper who apparently is Rebecca’s father. We are introduced to another key party member Brunhilde the shield-maiden who is joining this mission as a way to make amends for losing Estrid in the first place. Though this issue is a bit more wordy than the last it reads well and has good humor. Interesting characters and action abounds here and we get to know a little bit more about Rebecca as she attempts to carry out her task.
The art in this issue is on par with the last. Though we hit a few varied locations I must admit they don’t offer much to the scene, but they do look nice. Rebecca and Dave have their period-accurate outfits from before but Brunhilde is has a tough outfit on befitting someone who isn’t unfamiliar with a brawl. And she has a war hammer. The characters are more physically expressive in this issue than the last, in some scenes you’ll get the meaning even without words. There aren’t many comic series that do facial expressiveness as well as this one does and that’s a shame. Pair the different looks with unique faces and you have a good read that is nice to look at.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like women leading and being the reason for a story you should pick this up. This is a fantasy tale with hints of mystery and a decent amount of action.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Apologies, Death Dealer. I know you must thirst for battle!”
