Danger Jane #1 is a comic written by Allen Dunford & Mike Tener with illustrations by Anutkajpg and colors by Carlos Moreno. A former television star goes through the motions in this new phase of her career. This is a film industry spy drama with strong action, erotic scenes, and a bit of mystery. The leading lady here is Jane Lawson, she used to star in a show James Bond-esque show as a super spy named Danger Jane. The show lasted eight seasons but after an abrupt cancellation she now works as a stunt coordinator. This story begins in the middle of a Danger Jane episode where the Doctor Madman has the President dangling over a pool of water filled with radioactive alligators. As the President starts to descend Danger Jane enters the scene from the rafters and leaps into action. I believe this takes place in the 70’s/early 80’s judging by the décor and clothing. The violence is physical with a tiny bit of blood but there isn’t any gore. This moves at a steady pace with a James Bond and a behind-the-scenes of filmmaking vibe. There are some intensity spikes of a violent kind and a bit of dramatics but nothing very high. The dialogue is conversational and direct with decent back-and-forth; Jane also talks to herself quite a bit. There aren’t any word-heavy pages here. This is an intriguing debut issue with exciting moments that stars a strong female lead in a story about filmmaking, spies, and living life as a former star.
The art here is drawn in a detailed modern style with a slight bit of softness to it and realistic lighting and shading; there is also some noteworthy use of Ben Day dots. The color palette is wide and overall accurate to real life with a red, blue, and purple tones being the most prominent. This takes place in the middle of a city with the only natural scenery usually being house plants and scattered trees. The two primary locations here are Jane’s apartment and the movie studio which has multiple lots and stages. Backgrounds usually show the actual surroundings from furniture to architecture but on occasion it’ll just be a gradient color. The expression level here is a bit above average as characters here react both subtly and strongly. Emotions go from angry and annoyed to somber and melancholy with some happiness in-between. Faces have an above-average amount of detail with pretty every expression being clear. The violence here is almost all physical with a tiny bit of blood and hard hits but nothing gruesome or gory. There are a few action scenes of 1-2 pages in length with an overall good flow. Jane looks like a model and she regularly wears tight and revealing clothes; there are also numerous panty shots and lewd angles.
