Deal Breaker #1 is a comic written by Marcel Dupree and Joshua Metzger, with art by Jonas Scharf. A man makes a seemingly harmless wish and years after it comes true he is made aware of the price. Our leading man Jerry Boggs must decide how far he is willing to go to keep the life he has. Some of the supporting characters in this story include Jerry’s wife and kids, an old coworker, and a mysterious fella. The plot is pretty straightforward and the whole comic moves as smoothly as a TV show. This is simply a story about a man forced to pay what he owes. There is very little action here as this is a dialogue-driven story, at least in this debut issue. Speaking of dialogue, the conversations here are realistic and the back-and-forth doesn’t feel out of place. Some pages are a bit wordy but it’s necessary for the story they read at a good pace. This is a very intriguing beginning to a tale about the ripple effect of what was thought to be an insignificant action.
This comic is realistically drawn and nicely colored. It takes us all over the place from an office to a home to some good-looking outdoor scenes. And these are more than establishing shots; the backgrounds tend to stay relevant from panel-to-panel. There are above-average expressions here and the characters rarely hold the same look consecutively. The faces here are drawn with high detail so the little looks come across way better. Absolutely no face sameness here. Bodies are proportional and not cartoony. The few one scene is drawn with great impact befitting of the situation.
