Double Impact #1 is a comic written by Neo Edmund with pencils by Dave Santana, inks by Nelson Pereira, and colors by Ezequiel Dominguez. Two empowered women wreak havoc on the criminal underworld. This is a violent science fiction comic with some espionage and a main cast of only women. The leading ladies here are Jazz and China, they are former death row inmates who now go around attacking and robbing criminal organizations as the group Double Impact. Both of these ladies have tougher skin, stronger bones, higher speed, and can process information the level of a supercomputer. They also have an assistant who is almost as violent as them named Foxx. This story begins with this duo going to meet with Senior Flaming Tiger who claims that the actions of Double Impact are encroaching on his territory. When they arrive at his penthouse guns are drawn on both sides and the situation rapidly descends into violence. This is a very bloody comic with gruesome attacks and some heavy gore. The pacing here is steady overall with an action-girl tone. There are many intense moments due to violence. The dialogue here is conversational with a good amount of exposition via narration. Some of the things said can be cringey and cheesy. There are no word-heavy pages. This is an exciting reboot issue for a classic series that retains some of the old style and vibes with a high amount of action.
The art style here is detailed and reminiscent of comics like Danger Girl with significant shading. The color range here is vast with a good variety on each page. The scenery here has palm trees and mountainous areas due to part of this story taking place in Death Valley. The main location is the Double Impact compound where more than a few areas are visited. This comic tends to show the surroundings with the occasional gradient colors. The expression level here is around average as most of the looks don’t veer too far off their resting face. The main emotions here are nonchalance, anger, and sneaky happiness. The faces have strong eyes and mouths and do a good job at showing the different emotions. There is some strong face sameness here but it shouldn’t confuse you. The violence here involves blades and guns and gets very bloody with gruesome attacks leading to limb-separating gore. The action scenes can be lengthy and tend to flow smoothly with a decent amount of panels per page. All the ladies here except Foxx wear tight, revealing clothes and they are built like models with large chests.
