Ennead: The Rule of Nine, Book 6 – High Value Target is a comic created and written by J. L. Johnson with art by Edward Lilley. This is the sixth issue in this series but the third one to focus on characters not in the main cast. It’s also short. The star of this tale is a woman named Dofo’Li who wields a staff similar to what Inahtuu has. She is a member of what seems to be a seafaring group of people who have decided to go hunting, but wind up catching much more valuable prey. This might be the quietest issue so far dialogue-wise, some pages are nothing but grunts and commands. There isn’t much in the way of character development here but this wasn’t that kind of issue. Also going by the “To be continued…” at the end of the issue I believe that we’ll be getting to this specific story in the future. There is also a little bonus end credits page that hints at something on the horizon. I am as of now unaware of how this fits in the larger scheme of things.
Page one of this comic is on a boat. Everything else takes place in a jungle. We’ve got the twisty trees, vines, and unusually(?) large amounts of open space. The side characters in this issue don’t have much range facially but our two mains flex their muscles a bit. Dofo’Li’s face and outfit remind me of someone from Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show I did not watch. Another character has armor reminiscent of Galactus from Marvel. There are some light supernatural effects shown that fit in perfectly with the flow the fight scenes. This art makes significant use of shadows which adds a light bit of mystery to some pages.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
This is a short fantasy tale starring a woman consisting of scuffles and light story. A cool read.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
R.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“For the love of light…you islanders are fools.”
