Evora Leigh: A New Breed #2 is a comic written by Malcolm Yates McFadden with art by Ariyibi Toluwalase and colors by AB Spark. Evora Leigh continues her battle with a woman who has similar powers to her. This is a science fiction comic with some drama and a lot of violence. The leading lady for this tale is Evora Leigh, she is a woman who has had lighting-based powers from birth and is currently searching for her missing parents. She has been going after Well Labs, a place where her parents used to work. The story begins with the continuation of the battle between Evora Leigh and a woman named Subject 14. This is a huge spectacle with lighting all over the place and acrobatic moves. The violence in this story is light on blood but all in on brutality. The pacing is steady overall with things slowing down towards the middle as situations are explained. This is violently intense almost all the way through. The dialogue has decent back-and-forth and some narration by Evora as she observes what is happening. There aren’t any word-heavy pages but the text bubbles/blocks can get thick. This is a sequel issue that brings excitement and violence while giving us a bit more information about our angry protagonist and the organization she is up against.
The art here is drawn in a serious, modern style with very strong shading. The color palette consists of a lot of darks with pinks and reds. For scenery there are jagged mountains near a highway. There isn’t a main location due to shifting perspectives from Evora Leigh to others like Subject 14. We’ll visit labs, board rooms, and quaint towns. The backgrounds are split between showing the surroundings and being a gradient color, usually full of action lines. The expression level here is a tick around average as the looks come across strongly. The main emotion is anger with some irritation and confusion. The faces are drawn with a relatively high amount of detail down to the wrinkles and they show the different looks clearly. The electricity powers are bright pink from Evora and blood red from Subject 14. The violence involves these powers but outside of that it can be very physical. There is some light blood and brutal attacks but no gore. The action scenes are somewhat lengthy and they flow smoothly with a good panel count breaking up the moments.
